Yale Fence, 1833–1888
Of all the preservation battles at Yale, perhaps none was more emotional than that over the Fence at Chapel and College, where generations of Yale men had held court. A two-rail version now lines the inside of the Old Campus, but a 19th-century Eli would surely sigh that it’s not the same.
