The clockwork in the tower of Timothy Dwight College is accessible only from a narrow flight of stairs atop a student entryway. Last time Crump and Dudley went up there, they found that the latch on the door had been taped open—a sign that students found the space irresistible. The four translucent clock faces provide the room’s light. From the central platform that holds the motor, Crump leans perilously over to the clock faces to move and lubricate the hands manually.
