New Haven doesn’t feel very tropical in early April, but the School of Drama’s costume shop looked positively Caribbean as the staff worked on the clothes for Boleros for the Disenchanted, a Yale Repertory Theatre production that takes place in 1950s Puerto Rico. (From front to back: Clarissa Wylie Youngberg, senior first hand; Henry Johnson, overhire draper; Robin Hirsch, associate shop manager and lecturer in costume production; and student intern Sarah DeLong '08MFA.) The shop makes most costumes for Rep shows, which are usually designed by students in the drama school’s design program (in this case, Yuri Cataldo '08MFA). As a result, says Youngberg, the shop is “like a teaching hospital for designers.” |
