On January 31, students from nine Eastern colleges competed in a kendo tournament at Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Kendo is a Japanese martial art in which contestants clad in protective armor face off with bamboo swords, hoping to score a “touch” by hitting their opponent on the head, torso, or wrist. The tournament was organized by Koushinkan, Yale’s kendo club, whose name means “light-and-truth club” in Japanese. |
