Center for British Art
Photographer Bill Brandt (1904–1983) considered photography a medium in which “everything is allowed and everything should be tried.” Accordingly, his career was marked by numerous stylistic changes, from photojournalism to high-contrast nudes, to revealing portraits, to experiments in Surrealism. Known throughout the world for his exceptional range and distinctive vision, Brandt created more memorable images than any other British photographer of the 20th century. A display of 155 vintage gelatin silver prints from London’s Bill Brandt Archive spans the artist’s career of more than 50 years, and defines his preeminence in the field of photography. Yale Concert
Band
The classic children’s book Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, set to music by Band director Thomas C. Duffy, is a highlight of this free concert in Woolsey Hall. Also on the program are Bolero by Ravel, (trans. Mayhew L. Lake); Cartoon by Paul Hart; and Max the King, another composition by Duffy. Sterling Memorial LIbrary
The enduring legacy of the Oldest College Daily is the subject of an exhibit in Sterling’s Nave that focuses on the paper’s history, its famous alumni, “spinoffs” from the YDN (including WYBC and this magazine), and more. A gala celebration April 5-6 includes a panel on media and American politics and a banquet featuring speakers William F. Buckley '50 and Christopher Buckley '75. |
